Police probe reported robbery at El Camino Park

Man said attackers knocked him down, stole his wallet Sunday night

Palo Alto police are investigating a possible robbery of a transient man that allegedly occurred at El Camino Park Sunday night.

An officer was investigating an illegally parked car at the parking lot between the soccer field and the softball field in the park when a 53-year-old man approached and said he had just been beaten and robbed.

The man said he was walking on the path at about 9:30 p.m. when two men attacked him. The attackers allegedly knocked him down, punched and kicked him and took his wallet, police Agent Kara Salazar said.

Palo Alto officers contacted Menlo Park police and surveyed the area but did not see anyone matching the description of the alleged attackers. The man described the attackers as two white males in their 20s or 30s, one of whom possibly had facial hair. He could not provide clothing descriptions.

The man had a cut on his lip and a black eye, which police determined was caused by an earlier injury.
