A Palo Alto resident was arrested for attempted murder Tuesday evening after he allegedly stabbed his wife several times, police said.
Police said the stabbing occurred in south Palo Alto. Officers received a report of a woman bleeding in the street in the 300 block of East Charleston Avenue. Police provided first-aid assistance to the victim and Fire Department paramedics transported her to a local hospital, where she remains in stable condition, police said.
The stabbing occurred at the couple's home in the 3700 block of Redwood Circle, police said in a statement. The episode allegedly began with an argument that ultimately culminated in the husband stabbing his wife several times.
The husband, Daoming Qiu, 48, was booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail in San Jose on one count of attempted murder, police said.

I believe it was a stabbibg. My kids were driving home and saw the victim running and bleeding seriously and called 911. My daughter was so shaken by what she saw she asked to be taken to a friend's house out of this area for the night. I saw a very larg number of police cars and two streets blocked with crime tape but the police seemed to be calm - they didn't look like their were searching for a perpetrator but rather blocking a crime scene.

Can't be good. Lots of statements from family members being collected, police at the hospital, evidence collection ongoing, etc.

Thanks, I was wondering. Ugh, not good. I live a few block away, down Charleston, and could hear all of the sirens, and was listening to some of it on the scanner.
Hope the victim will be okay, apparently at Stanford Hospital, and Andy, hope your kids are okay, too.

This is very sad and disturbing, NOT ACCEPTABLE. They are our family friends. His older son is my son's best friend since preschool. Our thoughts and prayers goes out to Keen.

Spousal abuse is a serious problem in the Bay Area. Public safety, social workers, and medical personnel know it. It's more recent but nothing new. All of the women's restrooms at the Palo Alto Clinic have cards in many languages telling women there is help and where to go. But reportedly most are too afraid to act, have no support system, and often the 'support system' buys into the problem. There is a very good book with real-life stories written by a professor at Foothill/DeAnza. It's an eyeopener.

Poor family! Yes, they seemed to catch the perpetrator pretty early on in the process (judging from timing of the "get your hands behind your head" shouting), and the police made sure to tell people they were in no danger. It was very sad to see some children leave the house with another adult and the police. Hoping for the best for the kids.

The best way to help children who have seen a crime with a bleeding person. Is for their parents to stay calm.
Talk to your kids right then and there. Let them that they are OK and it is OK to be a little scared and that the police are taking care of things.
When children see their parents calm they learn that things will be OK Mom and/or dad are in control and nothing bad will happen to them.

Very disturbing and horrible that kids saw this--and that the attack was in Palo Alto.
Daoming Qiu has been charged with attempted murder--hope his wife recovers soon.

Interesting
PAonline was late to report both the stabbing and the Jobs story
Why is that?
Obviously there are degrees of domestic violence allegations--many of them are spurious and made to bias divorce and custody matters.
However the Daoming Qiu matter is in a very different category, alleged attempted murder--with a bleeding victim in public--stabbed-apparently many times.

The San Jose Mercury did a much better job at accurately describing the situation. There are still many, many investigations being made, and the matter isn't closed on whether or not it truly was an attempted murder. All that is known for sure is that there was an injury. Obviously, this isn't to make light of the situation at all. It's just that it's important to be discerning readers especially when names and personal information were given about the people involved in the incident.

Does anyone know how to find out what is behind these situations more quickly than waiting for the newspapers to report? I heard the sirens and saw the police tape yesterday evening and was unable to find any information on the internet. Seems like too long to wait more than 12 hours for PA Online to report.

Resident, in some cases, dispatch will release some info. I am not sure what PAPD's policy is, but you may want to call & ask. Between that & tweets, you may stay informed.

Indeed the elusive qq brings a lot of timely information to our town. Unfortunately, even such an intrepid reporter must at times leave his post for a while and we sometimes miss events as they unfold. What a shame, as nobody brings to the narration, an equal gift for accuracy, devotion, and the dry wit that creeps in at times, making what might be just a ghastly tale somehow bearable. Tweet on qq!

Women (and men, too):
Please consider taking classes in self-defense and/or traditional martial arts. In addition to being a great workout, they could possibly save your life.
Many of the readers here who post seem very concerned with the details of these tragedies. But what good is that really going to do you if something similar happened to you? What would be far more useful is to go through some scenarios and learn to recognize when danger is upon you and how to best escape from it.
And as soon as you escape, call the police. Dealing with these things is their job and they do a pretty good job of it. But to get to that step, learn how to deal with the immediate danger to be able to get out of it. Good luck out there.

I wish Sharon would take her commentary elsewhere. I'm so tired of her petty, finger-pointing negativity. Everything is a complaint. This reader appreciates the work the reporters here do keeping us appraised of what's going on and giving us an outlet to discuss the issues. I also don't think the Mercury story offered much more than the Weekly story, and why does the Merc website take so long to load? Anyone else have this problem? Back on point: Here's hoping the stabbing victim makes it through this and returns to health. This was a very scary situation, especially in our normally level-headed town. And I completely agree with "Concerned" about taking self-defense classes. Knowing how to defend oneself can be life-saving. And for those who aren't on Twitter -- definitely recommend you get on there and follow qq. qq (whoever he/she is) is often excellent at staying on top of scanner news. Here's a link: Web Link
