Palo Alto police are seeking a man who reportedly followed a teenage girl in his truck for several blocks on Monday afternoon and exposed himself to her before driving away.
Police received a report at about 4:47 p.m. about a man slowly driving his blue pick-up truck behind a 14-year-old girl in the Old Palo Alto neighborhood. The girl was walking south on Bryant Street, from Embarcadero Road toward Coleridge Avenue, when she noticed the truck slowly driving behind her and pulling over every once in a while as she kept walking. When she passed Coleridge Avenue, the truck allegedly pulled up next to her and stopped. When she turned to look at the truck, she made eye contact with the driver and saw that he was masturbating, police said. She turned away and the driver allegedly drove off.
Police said the man was last seen driving south on Bryant Street. Though the victim immediately called 9-1-1 to report the lewd conduct and officers responded to the area immediately, they could not locate the suspect.
The girl described the driver as a white male in his mid-30s, with short brown hair and a medium build. He was wearing a black V-neck T-shirt and black aviator-style sunglasses. The truck was a navy blue full-size pick-up truck that appeared to be new, police said.
Police said there have been no reports of similar incidents recently in the city. Officers plan to increase marked and unmarked patrols, with special attention payed to school commute routes used by students.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the department's 24-hour dispatch center at 650-329-2413. Anonymous tips can be emailed to paloalto@tipnow.org or sent via text message or voice mail to 650-383-8984.

PAPD also put out a press release yesterday about a boy who was injured by another with a BB gun or air soft gun.
Is there a reason why the potential harm to a 14 year old girl has been given media attention (local tv stations as well as Palo Alto Weekly) but boys and BB guns has been ignored?
Both news items are equally newsworthy in my opinion.

@Res, maybe because the suspect in this case is still at large.

We will be on the lookout for a white male in a blue pickup truck. Is a better description of the truck available? Large or small? Older or newer? Thanks.
