Palo Alto police are on high alert after a man exposed himself to a 10-year-old girl on Tuesday night, a day after a man exposed himself to a 14-year-old female, according to a police department press release.
The suspect, who remains at large, was reportedly driving an older white Volvo through Old Palo Alto shortly after 6:30 p.m. when he saw a 10-year-old girl walking her dog near the intersection of Byron Street and Seale Avenue. He allegedly pulled up his vehicle beside her, stopped the car and asked her if she wants to touch his penis. Police said she looked into the car, saw that his penis was exposed and immediately went home to alert her parents, who called the police.
Officers immediately responded to the area, but could not locate the suspect.
Police believe the same man may have been involved in a similar case that occurred on Bryant Street on Monday afternoon. In that incident, the suspect trailed in his navy blue pick-up truck a 14-year-old girl who was walking south on Bryant Street. When she looked inside the vehicle, she reportedly saw that the man was masturbating. She called the police and he drove away.
Police responded to the Monday incident by adding marked and unmarked patrols, particularly near prominent school routes. After Tuesday's exposure, officers plan to devote more staffing to patrols and to conduct extra surveillance in the area in an effort to catch the suspect. Police are also requesting the public to call the police immediately if they see suspicious behavior. A sketch of the suspect in the first case is expected to be released Wednesday.
Though the vehicle in the two cases was different, police say the suspect's description was similar. The suspect in Tuesday's flashing incident was described as a white male in his late 20s or early 30s, with brown hair. He was described as wearing a black-and-blue checkered shirt with a white collar.
