Midtown man booked for lewd behavior, again

Palo Alto police charge Clark Duncan McElfresh with indecent exposure for Sunday incident

A Palo Alto man was arrested Sunday afternoon for allegedly exposing himself and engaging in lewd behavior while standing in the backyard of his Midtown home, police said.

Clark Duncan McElfresh, who two years ago was arrested for masturbating while riding his bicycle naked back and forth on a residential block, once again found himself behind bars Sunday in connection with an indecent exposure.

Police arrested him shortly after they received a call from a woman on Sunday afternoon who said she saw McElfresh naked and masturbating in the rear yard of his home, in full view from the public sidewalk.

When police arrived, they allegedly saw McElfresh in the front yard of his home, still naked. He was arrested and booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for misdemeanor indecent exposure and a misdemeanor probation violation, police said. McElfresh is also on probation in Santa Clara County for lewd contact, according to the police.

I can understand busting him for doing his thing on a public street, but why was this woman peeking into his back yard?

@resident

The "in full view from the public sidewalk" part is what makes this inexcusable with no further conversation warranted.

This man has a problem and it's now a pattern. He needs serious help and serious repercussions before this turns into a much darker headline.

Anyone else recall the anecdote about Diogenes in ancient Athens who, when not carrying a lamp and looking for an honest man, would occasionally engage in the same behavior as this fellow in the public market? Supposedly he said something like his wish that one could similarly relieve a need for food by simply rubbing his stomach.
