Palo Alto police are looking for a man who they said tried to rob two dog-walking pedestrians as he was riding a small skateboard through the streets of Crescent Park on Tuesday night.
Police said the two victims, both men in their 20s, were walking their dogs westbound on Dana Avenue toward Newell Road, when they saw the man on a skateboard lingering around them. The man reportedly rode up to them near the intersection of Dana and Newell and asked for money and cigarettes. When they declined his request, he allegedly reached into his pocket, told them he had a gun and asked for money once again.
The two men did not see a gun, police said, and told the man they have no money. Around that time, a car approached the men and the skateboarder fled north on Newell Road.
Palo Alto police said the skateboarder was described as a Hispanic man in his 20s, about 5 feet 9 inches tall, with a medium build and a dark complexion. He was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, with the hood drawn around his face, and baggy light-colored sweatpants, police said, and spoke with a deep and lightly accented voice. Police said his skateboard was small, such that his feet covered most of it.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the department's 24-hour dispatch center at650-329-2413. Anonymous tips can be emailed to paloalto@tipnow.org or sent via text message or voice mail to 650-383-8984.

Who carries money anymore? These have got to be tough times for stickup artists who demand cash.
They might as well take up type-writer repair.
