A slate of three candidates — made up of two incumbents and a newcomer — are leading the race for the three open seats on the Ravenswood City School District board of trustees, according to semiofficial election night results posted Friday. The newcomer, educator Laura Nuñez, leads the pack.
President Mele Latu, Vice President Tamara Sobomehin and former candidate Nuñez of Ready Set Ravenswood are beating out Manuel López thus far.
Nuñez has 1,891 votes, or 32%.
Sobomehin has 1,500 votes, or 25.4%; Latu has 1,496 votes, or 25.3%; and López trails with 1,022 votes, or 17.3%.
"The early results do tell me that I could have done a bigger effort in campaigning," said López in a Wednesday morning statement. "Based on feedback from voters, academic excellence is a high priority for them and it was refreshing for them to hear reasonable proposals on the topic. I am grateful for the support I received despite not having placed signs in the streets or knocked door-to-door."
Initial election results include vote-by-mail ballots received in the mail as of Friday, Nov. 4, and vote-by-mail ballots returned at Vote Centers and Drop Boxes on or before Nov. 4. They also include a portion of Vote Center ballots.
