A Palo Alto woman was arrested Sunday morning after she allegedly broke into an Alma Street home for the second time in six months, police said.

The woman reportedly broke into the house in the 100 block of Alma Street on Saturday night, when it was unoccupied, and remained in the house overnight, according to a police press release. Police arrested her after they found her asleep on the sofa.

The resident, who was out of town with his family, observed the person in his home through video surveillance. He reportedly recognized her as the same woman whom he confronted in May, when she allegedly broke a glass panel on the home's front door in an attempt to enter his home.

At that time, the man's family was inside the home during the attempted burglary. Police arrested her near the residence after she fled the scene on foot.

On Sunday, police arrived to find that the glass panel on the front door had once again been shuttered. After she woke up, she allegedly gave the police a false name. Though she appears to have rummaged through property, nothing was missing from the home, according to the news release.

The woman, 48, was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for residential burglary, a felony; vandalism, a felony this time, as the victim now knew the value to repair the door was in excess of $400; and providing false information to police, a misdemeanor, police said.

There is no known connection between the woman and the home or the residents, according to the news release.
