The call about a fire at the Stanford Villa Apartment Homes, 3375 Alma St., came in around 11:40 a.m. Multiple Palo Alto fire engines responded, with assistance from the Mountain View Fire Department, and crews were able to get the blaze extinguished within 30 to 40 minutes, Palo Alto fire Battalion Chief Marc Muzzi said.

"We had a great response time and were able to contain it to the unit of origin," Muzzi said.

While only one unit was damaged by the fire itself, the families in the units above and below were also displaced, likely due to smoke or water damage, Muzzi said. There were no injuries reported.

Muzzi said that he couldn't comment on the cause of the fire or give a cost estimate for the damage, although he noted that an investigation is ongoing.
