A fire in a Palo Alto apartment building on Thursday displaced the residents of three units and resulted in a temporary road closure, according to emergency response officials. No injuries were reported.
The call about a fire at the Stanford Villa Apartment Homes, 3375 Alma St., came in around 11:40 a.m. Multiple Palo Alto fire engines responded, with assistance from the Mountain View Fire Department, and crews were able to get the blaze extinguished within 30 to 40 minutes, Palo Alto fire Battalion Chief Marc Muzzi said.
"We had a great response time and were able to contain it to the unit of origin," Muzzi said.
While only one unit was damaged by the fire itself, the families in the units above and below were also displaced, likely due to smoke or water damage, Muzzi said. There were no injuries reported.
Muzzi said that he couldn't comment on the cause of the fire or give a cost estimate for the damage, although he noted that an investigation is ongoing.
Northbound Alma Street was closed between East Meadow Drive and El Verano Avenue, the Palo Alto Police Department announced on Twitter at 12:08 p.m. By 12:30 p.m., police announced one lane was reopened. The second northbound lane was later reopened once fire vehicles cleared the scene.
