Mountain View resident fatally shot; man, 23, arrested on suspicion of murder

A gun was recovered at the scene and there are no outstanding suspects, police said

A 29-year-old man was fatally shot in Mountain View on Sunday morning, Aug. 20, and police officers have arrested 23-year-old Juan Rodriguez on suspicion of murder, according to the Mountain View Police Department.

Emergency dispatchers received calls just after 9 a.m. reporting gunshots heard on the 2000 block of Reinert Road, which is located north of the Monta Loma neighborhood. When police officers arrived, they found a man lying in the driveway of an apartment complex with at least one gunshot wound, according to a police department press release. He was declared dead at the scene, the release said.

Police identified the man as a 29-year-old Mountain View resident, but have not released his name.

Officers found Rodriguez, also a Mountain View resident, at the complex and detained him for questioning, later arresting him on suspicion of murder, according to the release. There are no outstanding suspects and a gun was recovered at the scene, the release said.

The police department described the case, including the motive, as being under "active investigation." Anyone with camera footage or additional information is asked to contact Det. Josh Gould at josh.gould@mountainview.gov.
