Palo Alto police are seeking a pair of masked burglars who reportedly broke into a Crescent Park home on Thursday night before being scared off by the homeowner.
The incident, which took place at about 8:30 p.m., marked the third time that this particular home, on the 00 block of Crescent Drive, has been burglarized over the past two years, according to a news release from the Palo Alto Police Department.
A similar incident occurred in November 2021, when intruders reportedly cut through the screen door and then broke the glass door at the rear of the home to gain entry. Burglars also targeted the home in February 2022, when they once again broke through the glass door and entered the home before being scared off by the burglar alarm.
In both of those earlier cases, homeowners reported that they did not believe anything was stolen. Both cases remain unsolved, police said.
Much like in those two cases, the resident was at home on Sept. 7 when her home was broken into. Police said that she was asleep with her husband when the burglar alarm sounded. When she went to investigate, she saw two suspects downstairs. She yelled and they ran out the front door, police said.
The woman was not aware if anything was stolen, police said. According to the news release, both suspects wore hooded sweatshirts, face masks, black pants, black shoes and gloves. Their race and gender are unknown, police said.
Police noted in the news release that most residential burglaries occur during the day, when homes are more likely to be unoccupied. They recommend that residents who have side yard gates put locks on them to prevent easy unauthorized entry and secure all windows and doors overnight.
