Lemuel Davis Bishop
June 4, 1934-Oct. 20, 2025
Beaverton, Oregon

Lemuel (Lem) Davis Bishop June 4, 1934 – October 20, 2025 (Beaverton, OR) Lem was born in Palo Alto, California, to Lemuel and Bina, who raised their three sons and daughter on Emerson Street. His parents owned Bishop’s Creamery on California Avenue for 37 years, a beloved community fixture. Lem was a standout athlete in the Palo Alto High School Class of 1952, where he played football as quarterback. He earned degrees from Menlo College and the University of California at Santa Barbara, later completing his MBA at Santa Clara University. He had a long career in finance, best known for serving as Vice President of Finance at Calma Company in Sunnyvale. Lem was known for his easygoing nature, his dry sense of humor, and his love of Sea Ranch on the Sonoma Coast. His face lit up around the people he loved, and nothing delighted him more than the company of children and dogs. A devoted 49ers fan, he held season tickets during the Candlestick Park years. He also had what the family fondly remembers as an epic mid-life car phase, and, unsurprisingly for the son of creamery owners, a lifelong love of ice cream. Lem is survived by his children Diana, Perry and Marilyn; his grandchildren Giovanna, Gabriella, Chris and Max; his former wives, Kaye and Peggy; his brother Larry; and other extended family and friends. Lem will be remembered for the kindness, humor, and integrity that defined him.
