Forget Dogs, Ban HUMMER

Original post made by Hummer Hater, Another Palo Alto neighborhood, on Sep 1, 2006

Let's leave dogs to their tricks and move our attention to HUMMBER, the gas guzzling mother of all SUVs that's popping up all around town. This monster should be banned from the streets of Palo Alto and every community in the US for it's wasteful fuel consumption.

Sure. I'll vote for it the day after we also ban wasteful web postings.

Few people can afford a stable of vehicles for every purpose, and so must select one to perform all work. They pay a premium for the purchase and operation, and they consider it worth the difference. This neo-puritanism whereby another's choices render them fair game for legislative punishment is inapropriate in a free, progressive society.

I could care LESS what someone drives. Lets close this topic now and move on to more important issues.

I'm shocked by the indifference displayed by Palo Altans. It seems that they are oblivious to the growing energy crisis and the dire need for energy conservation, not to mention an even more urgent need to reduce auto emissions to help clean up our emission-filled environment.

Palo Altans should travel abroad sometimes. In Europe, you will see much smaller cars on the road. People there are more conscious about conservation and reducing pollution. Europeans are just as big as Americans but they are doing what they can to help by driving smaller, less polluting and more fuel efficient cars.

My response to Hummer Hater was mild compared to his contempt for others but it is gone,
So's me.
