9/11 Flight Crews Finally Honored

Original post made by Jane, Professorville, on Jul 17, 2008

Nearly seven years after 19 Islamic jihadists took control of four commercial airliners with the intention of raining death and destruction on America, the flight crews who were first to die that day have finally been appropriately honored.

The 9/11 Flight Crew Memorial dedication in Grapevine, Texas, host city to Dallas-Ft. Worth International Airport, took place on Independence Day.

From the pilots in the cockpit and the forward flight attendants who were attacked with folding knives and box cutters, to the crew members who alerted the world, to those who joined with passengers using whatever was at hand to mount a do-or-die resistance and successfully stopping the suicide killers from reaching the nation’s capital, these 33 men and women should be remembered for their bravery, dedication to duty, and shared humanity as they faced what they knew to be the last moments of their lives.

Jane,

Good post.

I have a cousin, a flgiht attendant, who was devestated by this event. She lost close friends.

God bless the crew and passengers who fought back, and God damn the fools who in the aftermath were still counseling restraint.

From the article

"What is immediately noticeable about this glorious memorial is that it was entirely conceived and built by individuals who come from, or are closely connected to, the aviation community.

Too often, memorials become mired in controversy because they stray too far from their intended purpose, which is to mark an historic event, honor the individuals whose lives shaped or were personally touched by that event, and to inspire those of us who live on, today and tomorrow, to lead our lives in a way that gives meaning to those values which we hold dear as a people."

I recommend you read the whole article, it is very moving and genuine.

None of this would have happened if zionist jew terrorists would cease butchering and ethnically cleansing millions of Palestinians.

National borders are usually arbitrary. Resent the subdivision of the Middle East with arbitrary European decisions, but if you don't want someone else to divide you don't irritate them.
...and if you walk into a saloon and declare you are going to deck someone, don't be surprised when he decks you first.

"and if you walk into a saloon and declare you are going to deck someone, don't be surprised when he decks you first"

You should have told this to George W. 7 years ago.

Well, look who crawled out of the sewer at Stanford to spew his usual anti-Semitic, Anti-Israel venom.
The Palestinians are doing a very nice job of committing suicide with the help of their arab brethren--they need no help from the Israelis.

Paul, the problem with your argument is that GWB got in the first punch AND the last one!

Iraq is a done deal, Paul, unless you hatriots actively decide to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

George W. Bush is the LIBERATOR of Iraq!

You hatriots just cannot stand this reality. You remind me of all those leftists, who could not stand that Reagan won the Cold War.

Patehic stuff, really.

IF Barack agrees to meet Gen. Petraeus, he will get schooled. If not, he is just a fool.

There you go again, gary--for some reason you feel the need to use derogatory terms for people who do not toe your line (in case, you were wondering, it is labeling those that do not worship GWB as "hatriots").
But, we already know who the real hatriots are--people like yourself, who have no ethics or morals and feel that anything that Bush/Cheney/Rice/Rumsfeld/Rove do is not to be questioned. You support actions that some of the worst dictatorships in the world carry out and you do not feel that the US has strayed from the moral high ground we used to occupy.
You are a graduate of the Rush Limbaugh/Bill O'Reilly school of painting everyone that disagrees with you with the broad brush of not being patriotic.
Shame on you, Gary.

Real Hatriot,

I have made it abundantly clear, many times over, that hatriots are those who would rather see their country go down, over its leader go up.

This definition is general one, however, the current case is GWB and Iraq.

GWB made a very moral decision, and he has won...unless you hatriots decide to create a defeat...imagine what that will mean?

History is already on GWB's side, not yours, Real Hatiot.

That effort to rename one of San Francisco's sewage treatment plants after President Bush qualified for the ballot yesterday.
We can all agree that it's sophomoric and all that, but have the arrogant creeps behind this effort thought about how this kind of thing just reinforces the public impression that the cultural left drips with contempt for the common man?

Do you think the people working at the Oceanside Water Pollution Control Plant think their lives are a joke?

Their work is essential to the very existence of urban industrial society and these leftist nuts mock them? It's disgusting, but this contempt for the hoi polloi is the reason Republicans keep winning presidential elections.

If the Bush administration were smart, they'd have lept at this opportunity, saying that while the president deplored the disdain for working people inherent in such an effort, he would be proud to have his name associated with such a vital service and stood in solidarity with the engineers and chemists and electricians and others that help make modern life possible against the scorn of the lunatic left.

jr

While I don't agree with your last paragraph, I do agree with the rest of what you say. The idea of making a joke is one thing, but instead it will backfire. Firstly as you say, it makes a mockery of the people who work at the plant and the necessary work they do for people who like us need our sewage treated efficiently. Secondly, this is one of those items that makes a mockery of the US from the point of view of the rest of the world. When the rest of the world laughs, they remember the joke not the reason. They laugh at the Clinton/Monica affair without remembering the details and they will laugh at the San Francisco electorate for attempting this without remembering whether there was success or not.

For once, wouldn't it be a good idea to do something worthwhile rather than deciding to name anything after anyone. I would much rather the efforts be put towards improving education, fighting crime, helping innercity children find their ways out of joining gangs, anything useful rather than this.

And, on the subject of the memorial which started this. I think that memorials are a good idea. I would much rather have a permanent place memorialising an event or person, where those who want to remember can visit, rather than naming a place after the event or establishing a national holiday in its honor. In the same way that we like to visit the graveside of a loved one, a memorial is the best idea.

There you go again, Gary--we have already established who the real hatriots are--people like you and the people you worship (Rove, Bush, Rice, rumsfeld, cheney etc) who have contempt for what our country stands for and the reputation we have built up over the years.
sad to think how easy it was for the real hatriots like yourself to abandon our morals and ethics after a minor terrorist attack

Guys,

Blue-collar workers in SF are a pretty liberal bunch with good senses of humor. You really think they'd hang around SF if they weren't? (SF is also where your UPS guy as well as your interior designer is gay. And where my self-proclaimed conservative sister-in-law voted for Gavin Newsom as the more conservative of her choices.)

I mean, we're talking about San Francisco--I don't think there's been a time when the city didn't go its own way and do its own thing. Glad to see that after the dot-com boom and the grimness of the last seven years that SF retains a bit of its old quirky character. That it's still Baghdad-by-the-Bay even if Baghdad's no longer Baghdad.

I'd suspect their main objection isn't the joke factor, but having to be reminded of Shrub when they go to work.

It takes a really defective/selective memory to blame Bush for starting the Iraq war. And I fully concur with jr about the frisco treatment plant. Who was it that said a nation that exalted the philosopher because philosophy was a noble calling but demeaned the plumber because plumbing was a base calling is in trouble because neither its ideas nor its pipes will hold water?

What a devolution! I see this thread as yet another allegory of what is wrong with Americans ( assuming all here are Americans) in our discourse.

It took 5 posts for a complete and utter nutcase who is off his meds to post something completely absurd, then off we went and ended up with the yet another silly SF idea, the sewage treatment thing ( please remember, SF also voted in to overide the constitution and ban all legal guns inside SF, so even gay people can't defend themselves against attackers, another laughingstock moment in its proud clown history for a town that supposedly loves its gay people; and dismantle the ROTC program, the last best hope for aimless, fatherless youth, the very ones SF supposedly loves.).

SF is like the crazy distant cousin in the family. You leave him alone, and ask that he leave you alone. And watch him slowly fall apart.

Back to topic: I am grateful that Texas community exists. GREAT for them. They are the type of people I am proud to call my American siblings. NYC, still just has a hole in the ground. 7 years later. Yet right next door is a brand new, inhabited, 52 story ( I think) building, since there were no well meaning "public" sectors involved.

Just one minor correction, YforT; it is frisco, not a saint and not capitalized. As for Texas, it is a pity they don't know how to cook down there.

You are right, Walter!

I just read the morning SF Comical: I had forgotten about their insane "sanctuary" policy, ..which has resulted in yet more murders by illegals.

Doesn't ANYONE realize that until we control our border and boot out any illegals who have committed their first crime that we will have ever increasing danger?
