High Speed Rail Meeting

Original post made by Gary H., Midtown, on Jan 14, 2009

I received a card from the HSR Authority today (Jan 14, 2009). They are seeking public input as they create the EIR//EIS.

Follow this link for information regarding a meeting scheduled for January 29th by the HSR Authority:

I wrote to our Council back in early December and they where completely clueless on what this will mean to the quality of life here in Palo Alto. None have them have read any of the initial reports; I suspect that nobody wants to tackle this. The City of Menlo Park had an interesting meeting on this topic yet our City has not had one?

There are many other threads on this topic where people have posted the pros and cons of this project.

here is another interesting read: Web Link

Lest this become another boondoggle like BART, require the first expenditures to be for eliminating all grade crossings of existing rail corridors, then electrifying major routes. If we do not prioritize we will see money pissed away up front for glitz and "Statements" like every other recent project. A close example is the 5 billion dollar suspension bridge over a mudflat, the new Bay Bridge.

If anybody is interested, I pulled together a summary of potential HSR impacts in Palo Alto. Web Link
