Town Square

Town and Country Ingress/Egress

Original post made by Old Palo Alto, Old Palo Alto, on Sep 29, 2009

The ingress and egress to Town and Country shopping center desperately needs to be addressed. Someone is going to be killed at one of these locations. It's crazy to have cars turning left and right out of the parking lot onto a 4 lane road with a pedestrian sidewalk and bicyclists passing by. On the El Camino side near Scott's Seafood cars turn into the parking lot from both directions and turn out of the parking lot in both directions with no light! On the Embarcadero side, same situation with the added danger of Paly students crossing the street. Calls to the city get the same, 'uh I don't know,' response.

Do you have any data that there are traffic problems there. I went to PALY and have lived in this area for decades and surprisingly have never noticed accidents in that location, but my experience is anecdotal, and the lay of the land is changing.

I'm surprised they do not have a pedestrian overpass from PALY to T&C, that might not be a bad, but expensive idea. Some of those little embedded LEDs in the street might not be a bad idea to stop cars too.

Uh, try looking at the blog below titled "New Traffic Signal to be installed at Paly/Town and Country entrance".

Looks like the City's been on this for some time already.

The new lights near Paly will help.

I would like to add that the design of the T&C parking lot is awful. We have to work in the shopping center sometimes. The lanes are too narrow and the turns are too tight. It use to be a breeze driving through the parking lot. The first driveway on the ECR side was narrowed by about 10'. When cars are going in and out at the same time they have to be extra careful.

I bike thru here daily to Stanford between 6 & 7, back home around 3 when school gets out. It is a mad house, and although they just blocked pedi/bike access for new light install this month of work is going to make it crazier. We're nuts to think the students are going to go up to El Camino to the crosswalk and back downt to get to Long's or the cheese hose. Remember, this road is not a locals route it's a feeder between 101 and Stanford, these drivers have a different agenda. This morning as I crossed from Paly to T&C I was chased by a car westbound that pulled in the driveway at a dangerous speed, pursued me and passed me by at Jamba, I was going to follow her to her parking place BUT WAIT she goes blazing out onto ElCamino, she just didn't want to do the legal right turn at the light. Her speed and recklessness really scared me!
