When the Palo Alto firefighters union began circulating petitions to place a protectionist measure on the Nov. 2 election ballot last spring, we called it a terrible idea. It still is.

I do not trust the Council to chose between the requirements of public health and safety and their own ego satisfaction for their "visionary" City in the Clouds. I suggested, about 40 years ago, that Palo Alto be reduced to a Municipal Service District with strictly limited powers and authority. I still think that is a good idea.

Does anyone really think the Council or City Manager would be showing their cards right now? Of course they are not talking about Station closures.
I also find it interesting that the study the Council wanted (the one after they killed the first one) has still not been released.
I've heard the study is showing that Palo Alto is actualy short on responders! and that finding in the study will not be released until after the November election. The City Manager and City Council does not want that little detail made public until after tuesdays election.
