The seemingly ubiquitous honeybee has been fighting an uphill battle for survival since the late 1980s, according to Allen Larson, a commercial beekeeper.

Colony Collapse Disorder is indeed a serious crisis for the bees, for agriculture and for mankind. Is CCD indicative of serious problems with the environment?

Stanford grad Steve Chicoine's new novel BUZZ tells the story of a young man who spends the summer in rural Texas and comes to know an old beekeeper. There is much about the bees and beekeeping, Colony Collapse Disorder and responsibility for the environment. The story also carries themes of bullying and racism.

Beekeeping is a true free enterprise. Almost entirely free enterprise, even though agriculture relies heavily on it.
