Glad to see the surplus. The city council should put all of the surplus into a fund for a new public safety building, and put the same amount or more in each of the succeeding years, rather than spend it on any pet projects.

What goes up must come down, so don't go gaga on spending the surplus. Save a good amount for the rainy days.

Has anyone noticed a degradation of services as a result of those city hall vacancies?
I know I haven't!
How about making some of those vacancies permanent?

If the city is responsible, it will not give out any unnecessary pay raises. Instead, it should use the surplus responsibly. Spending on infrastructure or creating a rainy day fund would make the most sense to me.

Just fix the damn streets already. And don't do it with 6 managers and 2 workers.

This is good news, but strangely counter to another article in today's updates, "Palo Alto streets could be swept less often" (12/03/2013) at Web Link There is some irony to claim here, even conceding that even longstanding programs such as leaf banishment should be reviewed for cost efficacy.
How are various programs being managed concurrently by Palo Alto leadership? Also, with regards to Palo Alto Online, is there a unified reporting strategy regarding civic news or do you publish stories by more of an independent nature?

Or they could use the money towards infrastructure instead of raising taxes.
Nah..who am I kidding? Let's spend it all!

Can we save the extra cash to fund our long term pension obligations?
