M-A grad Melvin earns AL Manager of the Year honors

Oakland Athletics manager Bob Melvin, a graduate of Menlo-Atherton High, was named the Sporting News American League Manager of the Year. It is his second Sporting News Manager of the Year Award after being named the National League winner with Arizona in 2007.

If memory serves Bob Melvin of Menlo Park was also part of the illustrious Palo Alto Post 375 American Legion team that went to National championships, for the even more local PaloCentric angle.

Congrats, Bob!
I actually jumped on that bandwagon and went to an A's game first time in 17 years (since The Money Ball days) and bought an A's cap for the first time since the 1987 All-Star game.

(And for a Giants fan I have a worse admission: I'm rooting for the Dodgers in playoffs, because they have a Palo Altan in the lineup).
