In Memoriam: Remembering those who left us

What wonderful tributes!!! It is people like these now departed Palo Altans that make Palo Alto th incredible town that it is!!!

My parents were not in the same class as Hunk and Moo Anderson in terms of collecting or donating art but their friendship with George and Dorothy Saxe inspired them to donate a collection of 300 Pueblo pots to the De Young Museum of San Francisco. I want to nominate Eleanor Emmons Maccoby an eminent developmental psychologist of the 20th century and well into the 21st, for inclusion on this list. Eleanor (my graduate advisor) came to Stanford from Harvard in 1957 and spent the rest of her career there. She conducted path-breaking research on childhood socialization and sex and gender differences, taught thousands of undergraduate and graduate students, and was the first woman to become chair of the Psychology Department. After achieving emeritus status she remained active in her field as well as the Palo Alto community, and passed away at the Vi last month at the age of 101.
