Palo Alto school district wants to change the way its top administrators are paid

Am I missing something here? It looks like the proposal is for a 3% raise yearly for the top administration.

Guess they didn't threaten to unionize. Makes sense given they get 3% raises and PAEA and PAMA get 2%. Wonder if the district is doing that to spite PAMA for threatening to unionize when the district tried to eliminate the me too raises for them.

What are "satisfactory performance evaluations"?

SAT scores? AP class #s? Blech. PAUSD administrators have done a horrible job getting in the way of the potential for a valuable education for their students. Give the teachers higher pay and more autonomy instead.

Why aren't teachers getting paid more of an equitable salary? They're on the front lines and doing the hard work? I can never understand why bureaucrats make so much and why their salaries overshadow teachers by a wide mark. I know in PA teachers make an okay salary but in other districts, teachers get the short shrift. Why isn't there more outrage? Guess everyone's at the mall or on their phones.

ritac: I think the reason the teachers in general do not get paid as much is due to the teacher's union, tenure after 2 years as a teacher, no way of giving them a performance evaluation given the disparity of students, and because the US In general does not put as high a value on educators as other countries.

The tenure and retirement plan are not to be minimized. The administration within a school district can be fired easily or "let go" however it is a huge challenge to get rid of a tenured teacher who is not performing.

I wish things would change for teachers but when a union is involved, it is quite challenging . I do feel teachers need rights and deserve so much for all they do. I feel the current system is not working for anyone - the teachers, students, and parents/guardians.
