As supply of COVID-19 vaccine doses plummets, Santa Clara County receives looser distribution rules

Original post made on Mar 24, 2021

Santa Clara County health leaders cautioned that a drop in COVID-19 vaccine allocations from the state is jeopardizing efforts to send doses to their most vulnerable communities, but a new agreement with the state could help.

"Among adults ages 75 and older who have received at least one dose of vaccine, 49.3% are African American, 68% are Asian, 41.3% are Latino and 62.6% are white...."

"Among adults ages 75 and older who have received at least one dose of vaccine, 49.3% are African American, 68% are Asian, 41.3% are Latino and 62.6% are white."

The numbers you reported are the percentage of residents 75 and older within a race/ethnicity that have been vaccinated. So, 49.3% of all African American residents 75 or older in Santa Clara County have been vaccinated. Instead, you reported that 49.3% of all adults 75 and older who received at least one dose are African American.

If you were looking for those numbers, my calculations are that among adults 75 and older who have been vaccinated in Santa Clara County, 1.35% are African American, 30.21% are Asian, 8.07% are Hispanic/Latino and 47.45% are White. (Based on SCC Public Health Data for March 24, 2021).

Stats can be confusing, but if you read it carefully -- the article explains the difference in the last two paragraphs. Per administered vaccine, and per capita by race.

Get us 60-64 vaccinated and stop the irrelevant virtue signaling. All county regions deserve vaccine access and risk is by AGE, including the 50+ cohort after 65+. Quit wasting time, politicians!

And now there is news that eligibility will be increased in the next week and then again a couple of weeks later. What is the point of increasing the numbers of people eligible if the availability cannot be guaranteed.

Just as the the drug companies are dramatically ramping up supplies, per today's NY Times story on the emerging "glut" of new production, Newsome dumps Blue Shield and its lawyers into the works. Is he literally campaigning for is own recall?
