Here are the letters to the editor sent recently to the Palo Alto Weekly about Palo Alto retail and a recent City Council decision not to hold a closed meeting on Cubberley Community Center land.

I think the main problem, as expressed by CM Burt iirc in his comments after moving to postpone, was that the City Council has not yet decided *what* land to sell/trade for additional Cubberley land (e.g. Terman Park? City land near airport? Other city land?). It's that decision on what if any land to trade away that should be made in a public and transparent manner.

It's quite difficult to discuss prices/terms if you don't know what land you're discussing :) Apparently, City Attorney Stump's legal guidance was that it is not allowed to discuss such other issues in a closed session.

I share KH's frustration at the delays in Cubberley redevelopment, but note that in recent months, an architect involved in the process has publicized a staged building plan where the first stage involves only land the city already owns there. We could (in theory) start building by the end of the year!
