Despite past allegations of wage theft, Palo Alto inks new deal with janitorial contractor

A janitorial company that last year faced accusations of wage theft from its employees, prompting Palo Alto to firm up its labor standards, secured this month a new five-year deal to clean up local parks, garages and public buildings.

I am disappointed that without discussion, and under the covers of a consent technicality, some members of the city council pushed through a five-year sweetheart deal with SWA Services Group of Santa Clara. This deal needs proper consideration to determine whether it is in the best interests of Palo Alto residents or whether it's a giveaway to special interests.

With a 39% increase, maybe they won't need to rip off their workers. Seriously, what type of message is the City Council sending?
