Is Al Gore's Movie Funny ???

Original post made by Debbie Mytels, Midtown, on May 30, 2006

Actually, yes !

An Inconvenient Truth, Al Gore's movie about the impact of climate change on this planet -- as well as about how this topic keeps reappearing in his personal story -- is both funny AND sobering. Based on a lecture he gave here at Stanford and at other communities around the country in the past year, this documentary is both entertaining and informative, a "not-to-miss" examination of what's emerging as THE issue of the new century. Lots of beautiful photos and disquieting time lapse photography. Every thinking person should see it. Go see it at Palo Alto Square CineArts, starting next weekend, June 2. (Or come to the Friends of Acterra showing 7 pm on Saturday night, June 3, for some special actvities.)

Very much looking forward to this film and happy it's opening at the CineArts.

There's really a big BUZZ about this movie! All the free passes that were delivered to Acterra this morning by the film distributors have been picked up already by folks from the general public!

Debbie, no surprise about the buzz around _An Inconvenient Truth_. As you yourself so accurately said in your earlier post, global warming is THE issue of the new century.

Everywhere I read, critics are raving about this film and about Gore's own self-reinvention. The imagery is, by all reports, jaw-droppingly startling. The movie is bound to be a tough wakeup call for all of us, but also fascinating.

I think of myself as educated on this topic, but I wonder if this movie will galvanize me to ride my bike and carpool more often, and turn off a few more appliances than I already do?

I hope lots of people show up on Saturday night to meet Acterra and (if they travel sensibly) enjoy some free popcorn.

See you at the movies!
Joanna

Highly recommended! I saw the movie this evening, and walked away with a few thoughts. Certainly, I want to redouble my efforts to conserve energy and reduce my share of carbon emissions. I want to make several energy-saving home improvements sooner rather than later. I want to renew efforts to pressure politicians to address this issue. I want to spread the word. (Not only about this movie - for example, all Palo Alto Utilities customers should participate in the Green energy program!).

And after seeing the computer animation showing the new sea level around the SF Bay if the polar ice melt reaches projected levels, I want to find a home on higher ground. Yikes! We need to get serious about this.

My only comment after watching An Inconvenient Truth is:

And Bush wants to discuss gay marriage!?

Don't miss out on the discussion!
