Anyone recently bought a gas grill?

Original post made by Andrew Thompson, Midtown, on Jun 14, 2006

I'm writing a story for the Palo Alto Weekly on the use of gas grills, their features, benefits, limits, etc. The guidelines are very general. I'm looking for someone to talk to who has recently purchased a gas grill. I'd like to get a sense of what you were looking for, what influenced your decision, how you use it, and anything else we discover might be pertinent to the article. I'd also like to get a photograph of you and the grill at your house.
If this is something you'd be willing to do, you can email me at athompson@paweekly.com or call me at 326-8210 and ask for Andrew Thompson. And of course, feel free to leave comments.

Thanks!

Gas grills rule:
I got my second gas grill about a year ago as a gift from my kids.
In my opinion gas is the only way to cook on a barbecue.
The first gas grill I had was from Barbecues Galore and I think superior to the one I have now because it had a grill for a layer of lava rock between the jets and the cooking grill which allowed for a more even heat.
Gas allows for maximum control during cooking.
It doesn't smell of starter fuel so that all your left with is the aroma of backyard cooking. This is much more neighbor friendly.
It is immediately available so there is no waiting for charcoals and you never have the taste of starter fuel in the meat.
I am definitely pro gas and the die hards that say you don't get the outdoor flavor from gas just need to use a better sauce or marinade.

Richard,

Thanks for your reply. Would you be willing to be interviewed and have your grill/backyard photographed for the article? If so, my information is above. I'd really appreciate it!
