Palo Alto Haiku

Original post made by Just a citizen, Evergreen Park, on Sep 9, 2006

Here is some formal haiku, with a local flavor - surely others can do better than I! Try your hand!
(requirements:
first line, 5 syllables)
(second line, 7 syllables)
(third line, 5 syllables)

Here are several that were inspired by recent news; fun mental excercise -- anyone else?

Big box retailer
Everyone has one of them
Not Palo Alto

City Council meets
People smile and talk
Decisions are slow

City Manager:
"Explain yourself" they tell him
He does; they approve

Old Police building
Forty million, maybe more
How safe can we be?

Housing shortages
Property is expensive
Move to Mountain View

Unanimous vote
Every Palo Altan's dream
It doesn't happen

University...
Restaurants are everywhere
Big Box retailer?

Library needs books
There isn't any money
Bond or parcel tax?

Stanford Mall, upscale
No place to get food for kids
Bring my own apple

Palo Alto news
Seen in Weekly and Daily
But where is the truth?

Fiber to the Home
Will it ever happen here?
Wireless is good, too.

OK, I'll separate each one with a dotted line

"Rrrun" in Bowden Park
A car sprouts from chubby legs
I think it looks weird.

Retail or housing?
Developers fight neighbors.
We can't have it all.
-----------
Unhoused now have homes.
Opportunity Center -
a feel good story.

Grass is finally green now
Dog people happy too
