Enough with word-of-mouth specials

Original post made by Ray, Leland Manor/Garland Drive, on Sep 15, 2006

I can't understand why restaurants make their servers recite a long list of specials to their patrons. Do they think it makes the restaurant seem more elegant? The recent review of Madison & Fifth "so many specials that the server's recital takes quite a while" brought the issue once more to mind. Who can remember all the details of the specials when the server reels off a long list of them? The solution is to do what is usually done in most European restaurants, write the specials down by hand (a decent handwriting is essential) run copies off on the ubiquitous copying machine and clip a copy to each regular menu. Voila, problem solved!

Hear Hear from one who usually orders the specials after I have had to ask for the second one (or the third)to be repeated slowly.
