Stanford Game

Original post made by Stanford Stan, Midtown, on Sep 24, 2006

I heard Stanford lost big yesterday, but I wanted to find out more... I had hoped that I would find it on Palo Alto Online last night or this morning. There was nothing here.

What?! ..No mention of the Stanford vs Santa Clara mens BB game? Maples was nearly full. There's gotta be quite a few PA area readers that would like to hear the local take on that game. OK, I'll say it for you....Stanford received a good old fashioned butt spanking, and, a clinic on desire, hustle, and pride from the Santa Clara U. Broncos. I'm a Stanford basketball fan myself and I hope that the team learned a lesson, but they really shouldn't give up their season after what Santa Clara did to them. This Santa Clara team would probably do the same thing to UCLA, except the game would be a lot closer. This SCU team is almost the same team, though better and deeper, than the one that beat the North Carolina Tar Heel's national champs two years ago. The Broncos, under coach Dick Davey, play with a lot of heart and every player on that team competes with a mission that they can beat anybody at any level, and they do. They play basketball the way college basketball was meant to be played. There was nothing sweeter during Saturday night's game than to watch the last 25 seconds of the first half...Stanford was going for the last shot but the Broncos applied their tricky-tenacious "D" and stole the ball. The Broncos, Brody Angley, the shortest man on the court and looks more like a bronc-rider or fullback than basketball player, calmly dribbled the ball up court for the Broncos, using up every second like if he had a built in timer as the Stanford gaurds converged on him, then with an odd combination of reckless abandon and laser precision, weaved and sliced through Stanford's tall trees for a fingertip-roll lay-up which ringed the rim and fell in with the buzzer ready to blast. I felt the spark of March-madness at that instant. I think the Bay Area is in for a very interesting college basketball season. Watch out PAC-10 and UCLA once the Cardinal get into sync...Watch out Gonzaga, no sneaking by the Broncos this year...Cal, St. Mary's, will probably be ones to look out for, as well...
