A bit later as 3-4 am really disrupts our sleep pattern. I realize it is hard to do this but maybe we can find a better way.

Hard to close down streets folks. But I feel your pain. Let us be realistic with our suggestions for Ms Connie Jo. Maybe there is a better way or a more quite machine. Always a possibility. If we can put a man on the moon why not build a silent street cleaner.

Well, they managed to restrict boating to only electric motor boats in Foster City. Just restrict roads to electric powered vehicles in PA! Then we could get rid of the bus noise during the day as well.

I'm sure glad I don't work for the city. Meaningless complaints like this must come in hour by hour.

OK you guys. My intention was to share and offer a possible solution and not complain to the City. They get that enough. This forum seemed a likley place to start a discussion and see of anyone had a suggestion. A real suggestion and one we could bring to the city.
But I can see ear plugs might be my best chioce. You guys are funny. It was just one resident sharing a sleepless night in Palo Alto frustration with her neighbors. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

The issue of sleep is certainly important. I learned this while working as an administrative assistant many years ago for Dr. William Dement, the world-renownd sleep doctor at Stanford.

I've lived in almost every area in Palo Alto, including the big old Victorian house on Alma between the Fire Station and Dahl Plumming and Heating - right across from the University Train Station.

This might sound a little est or zen(ian), but my experience with noise and sleep was that instead of waking up and feeling annoyed, I chose to feel different. Instead, I recalled my childhood days here in Palo Alto and remembered how at 7:10am, I'd hear the train, then I'd hear my dad leave for work. That was my cue to get out of bed and get ready for school. I began to feel something good about the train noises and whistles. Thereafter, on the few occassions I'd wake up to the noise, I found it comforting. Soon, I just never woke up to it that often.

I'm a little deaf now and although I live not-too-far from the California Avenue Train Station, I don't hear it. But if I did, I guess it would remind me of those good days growing up here in Palo Alto.

Occasionally sleepless in Palo Alto

Palo Alto is doing a great disservice to the citizens by allowing street cleaning at such insane hours. I was awoken at 6am today due to these knuckleheads. This has happened a dozen times or more in the past 6 months. STOP IT ALREADY!!

I guess our mayor and council do not care!
