What was that huge accident on Charleston at 2:30 PM today, Friday?

Original post made by td, Midtown, on Jun 29, 2007

hi --
I was attempting to get to REI at around 2:30 today from
San Antonio heading south and had to turn around as Charleston
was completely blocked off with emergency personnel (police,
firetrucks) on the block before the 101 entrance..yikes!

Looked pretty serious...
thanks,
-td

I ran into this traffic nightmare also. The strangest thing was there were no Palo Alto Police at the Charleston/ SanAntonia intersection to direct traffic even though the incendent had been going on for quite a while.

I guess the Palo Alto Police don't work with the Mt View Police.

The traffic backed up across SanAntiona Rd as Charleston was blocked just past the gas station and there was no way of knowing this ahead of time and there was only the option of turning around.

I have heard that the Police seldom even come to South Palo Alto as they are all directed to work downtown and in the business areas.

Ed, how do you think change happens, by people not talking about things they've heard? There's a fine line between a rumor mill and being an informed citizen.
