Walgreens building made fighting fire difficult

The construction of the Walgreens building at 300 University Ave. made it easy for the fire to spread and difficult for firefighters to attack it, Palo Alto Fire Chief Nick Marinaro said today.

I beg to differ with this statement: "the first in downtown Palo Alto since a pub burned in the early 1980s." Since I moved here in 1995, a cooking shop has burned down, and before that a recreational equipment store and a picture framing store burned down, all in downtown Palo Alto.

The Chief is right. The other fires you mention did not go to four alarms. I know, I was at both the the cooking store and frame shop fires. Have a good day.
