Perhaps a local organization would be interested in doing this. The Peninsula Peace & Justice organization, or maybe a group of local churches. Perhaps even a Parents group.
I just think it might generate more buzz if sponsered in such a fashion.

While you are at it, march for repeal of the Second Law.
Decrease the rewards and increase the disadvantages of criminal behavior if you want to reduce violence. Demand the death penalty for everyone convicted of first degree murder.

yup, does a lot of good against violent people: they care so deeply about what others think of them. We should march against rape, domestic violence, child beatings, gangs, and everything else, too. It would be so useful.

I like this idea, too, but don't know if this is the best way to get the idea out to the whole town.

And to Walter & geez:notice how you contradict each other? It's because you are just speaking from a typical knee-jerk reactionary stance. This congregation would have nothing to do with your ideas. If this gathering really happens, feel free to stay home & sneer at all of us. We won't miss you. If you can open your hearts, however, it would be great to see you.

There should be many ways to get the word out. Starting another thread with details as the heading would be one idea. Getting a message on the Post, Daily and Weekly, as well as the Menlo Park Almanac could be done simply too.

Otherwise, it will mean getting fliers made and getting them posted all over town. I don't know if a permit would be needed, but maybe that should be checked.

Obviously, fliers could be put in and around downtown near where the event is planned. Sending email to tv stations would get more publicity.

If someone wants to put in a lot of effort it may happen. Otherwise, it will just fizzle out.

Knee jerk reactionary? Perhaps. Why not check on the Children's Crusade? That worked out real well, too. Spain looks well on the way toward losing what El Cid reclaimed, and ready to pay the price of dimihood. Bad guys stop being bad when it ceases to be a good business model. If you are real lucky, no one will be mugged at your futile little display of irrelevance. You can sleep safe tonight because rude, knee jerk men and women stand ready to do violence in your behalf.

Another road closing event to block PA streets. On the other hand if it brings people Downtown to shop at the stores and help our retail tax base; it's a good idea.

Why don't we all sing KUMBAYA that will stop the thugs... not.

Midtown Mom, would you be willing to set this up? Do you belong to a church group that would help you? Otherwise, I think there is just too much apathy for this to happen. Having said that, if it were to happen, I DO think many, many people would show up. My feeling is: the more we do this, eventually the message will stick.

Spain's Supreme Court has overturned the conviction of four people found guilty of involvement in the Madrid train bombings in 2004.
The four were among 21 people convicted last year over the attacks, which killed 191 people.
The court also upheld the acquittal of an Egyptian suspected of masterminding the attacks, because he had already been convicted of the offence in Italy.

Spain's Supreme Court extends greetings and felicitations to future terrorists wishing to bomb targets in Spain.

Could you please explain that statement? As I recall, Spanish socialists demanded a cut-and-run from the coalition that was liberating Iraq. They not only did not reject hatred and violence, they gave a green light to perpetuate it. Thankfully, George Bush and Tony Blair held the moral ground.

On what possible basis do you think that a bunch of people chanting "peace" will deter thugs in Palo Alto? Frankly, it sounds like a "60's" thing run amok.

I do not, however, currently have the time to organize this kind of an event, even if it wouldn't be all that difficult. Perhaps someone else, or a local group, can get it going. If not, then perhpas another day, another venue. The strugle for peace, civility, & non-violence will continue.

My thoughts continue to be with the family & friends of the victim.
