Walter,
Part of the reason those conservatives are mad at McCain is because he's doing his damnedest to get Obama elected and bringing out the lunatic fringe of the Republican party.
Sarah Palin's heading back to Alaska soon. She's not as popular as she used to be--wonder if she'll last.

Yes, John McCain is in a terrible position. He has to distance himself from the Bush right wing, since those policies have gotten us into a terrible war and an even worse economic mess. But by moving to the left, he is alienating his financial base, forcing him to quit campaigning in key states like Michigan.

Same thing happened to Bush after his conservatism turned out to be neither compassionate nor even passionate. Patrick Buchanan and Bruce Bartlett come to mind. But get a load of these guys - they expect fidelity to principles. How naive can they get?

Palin will be remembered for the gas transmission line. McCain for the gas.

I think you've expressed the Republican base's mood very succinctly, Walter. If McCain values his life he's praying he loses the election.

Donald,
Latest poll has McCain 16 points behind in Michigan. No wonder he quit.
What I'm wondering about is the poll in West Virginia where Obama's eight points ahead. That's got to be an outlier, but Obama's been doing an amazing job of turning states in his favor.

McCain says he knows how to get Bin Laden. Gee, shouldn't he tell the military or the CIA? Is he letting Bin Laden live and work until Jan. 21 on purpose?

I am not a republican, Paul. When they chose McCloskey over Shirley Black they lost me. They never gained me back. My contempt for republican "leadership" is because, as adults, they should know better.
