Wow, I thought this was a joke, but apparently it's not! Here's the link to the article:

Those losers in Boston/Cambridge didn't even make the top 10.
"...Ann Arbor has great public schools, low crime and affordable housing. Not surprisingly, it all adds up to the highest rank on our list of best college towns. It beats out Palo Alto, Calif., home to Stanford."
"...we looked at the price of a four-bedroom, two-bathroom, 2,200-square-foot home in each market and compared it to the median income.
In Columbia, Mo., for example, home of the University of Missouri, that size of house runs $217,500. When combined with a $40,178 salary, it's an affordable locale."
I can't believe PA is even number two because it misses on the "affordable housing" category.
Columbia, Missouri is indeed a lovely college town. It just happens to have atrocious weather. ice storms, tornadoes, snow, humidity, heat - the list goes on. But people there love it. More power to 'em.
Palo Alto was ranked #2 SPORTS town, not just as a college town.
Its time to let the City of PA pat itself on the back. What did the City of PA do? Nothing .. but they will figure a way to take credit.
I grew up in Ann Arbor and now live in Palo Alto - lucky me! I have to say Ann Arbor was (and still is) an amazing place. Having the university intimately integrated in to the town is very unique, as most campuses are completely separate. So big pluses are: schools, affordable housing, amazing University, great local sports (both U of M and Detroit teams), etc; big minus (very BIG) is winter weather and cloudy skies! Palo Alto weather and locale is un-matched but housing situation is criminally too expensive! Why isn't Eugene, OR or Chapel Hill, NC on the list?
