this is very upsetting and glad the 19 year old student is safe. as for the assailants, they will definitely pay back what they did. what one does in this world will always come back, whether good or bad.

The beating a 19yr old Stanford student for $10 and a cell phone by a gang of thugs is pathetic, I am surprised it did not get more vocal local reporting. Why did the strip him?
One would think that the College Terrace area would be safe for Stanford students at mid-night,
but apparently no longer.Stanford need to become a more closed community with more controlled access after dark.
As it is private property, it will become gated property soon.
Stanford students should be advised to only walk in groups around Palo Alto, they are clearly much safer staying on Campus.
Freshmen, and their parents, must be advised accordingly.

Sharon's comment is a bit OTT, but here we have another crime on our streets. This was late at night, but it is in a respectable neighborhood and we should be able to walk safely on our streets.

Crime is getting more frequent and it is about time our city did more to protect its residents. Less time spent on green issues and more on crime please.

No matter what city you're in, ECR can be sketchy at night. Poor guy!
