Loui Loui Steakhouse

Original post made by elaine, Midtown, on Jul 31, 2009

Three of us tried Loui Loui on a Tuesday night. It had gotten a very good review in the Weekly. Perhaps we got a different staff that night.

This is the worst restaurant we've gone to in many years.
The food was unacceptably poor in quality and preparation. The waiter made so many mistakes. He was very attentive but got most things wrong anyways. Even something as simple as a drink. He asked if I wanted it blended or on the rocks. I replied "blended". It was on the rocks! The beef was full of gristle. The chicken full of fat. The vegetables for the most part had no taste. But the brocoli rabe was actually bitter.

Items were forgotten and had to be asked for again. The server did not know who ordered what and had to be told. The chocolate souffle was cooled inside and had no flavor. I could go on and on.

Yet it was very expensive. This may have been an atypical evening. I just can't believe that if it were this bad every day that it would receive good reviews and remain in business!

We went there for dinner a month or so ago. Our waiter was extremely friendly but also made several mistakes. He was very nice about them and corrected them as soon as we pointed them out.

We thought the food was very good though. We both had steak.

The beer selection stinks. If you like a dark ale with your steak you are out of luck. I was so disappointed about the beer selection that I spoke with the manager about it. Every once in awhile when i'm walking by I stop in and check to see if they've gotten any ale yet. They haven't...

I wonder what the corkage fee is on a bottle of Racer 5 IPA...

My steak was great, but the wait staff was terrible. It took forever to get service. Some of the food was cold when it got to us even though the restaurant was not busy. There were employees milling about looking like they didn't know what they should be doing. This restaurant appears to be run by someone that's never been in the restaurant business before.
