A simple ID bracelet could be such a help in cases like this. My father-in-law refused to get one for my mother-in-law (denial) and cause my husband and I undue worry and frustration as a result (we lived 3,000 miles away from them). It's just a great little insurance policy to have some sort of ID on your person at all times. I have my phone number engraved inside a bracelet I always wear and I am not elderly yet (by my standards that is). It may be of some assistance to me some day though and save my family from worry.
