Airbus A380

Original post made by Dave, Palo Alto Hills, on May 14, 2011

For the aircraft enthusiasts, the daily flight from Frankfurt Germany to SFO flies over Palo Alto daily between 11 and 12 noon every day. Look for the huge aircraft flying down the peninsula over hwy 280, a left banking 180 degree turn over Palo Alto to line up with the ILS approach to SFO.

You can also see all the flight via SJC WebTrak web site (10 min delay): Web Link

This reminds me of when I lived in Reading, England. We could see and hear Concorde fly over every day. It was a nice experience and a good memory.

Thx for posting...funny coincidence, I was outside (I think it was yesterday) and saw it! I noticed the 4 engines, the roar, the size, and wondered if it was the A 380 or "just" a 747...I am not sure I will appreciate this huge plane continuing to turn right overhead. It was a bother - the novelty may wear off with many people. Seemed more noisy that what I thought they said about the 380.

All planes enroute to SFO are required to stay at 5,000 ft. or above in accordance with the "Eshoo Agreement" negotiated with SFO the last time Gary Fazzino was mayor - about twelve or more years ago. It is repeatedly violated. Planes must stay at 8,000 ft. over the Woodside beacon. If planes violate that height limit, then residents can call the SFO noise reporting toll-free hot line 1-877-206-8290. Follow the directions if you want an ID number for the future. Give as much information as you can - time, plane marking, how many engines, etc. The San Francisco Airport Roundtable and SFO keep track of the complaints. They think we have no trouble with noise here.
There are four inbound routes to SFO, and Palo Alto is within the "Menlo Triangle" which has three of them.

That 5,000 ft. limit is for the "Menlo Triangle' (Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Atherton, and EPA) then planes are supposed to start descending to the next beacon which is someplace north of the Dumbarton Bridge.

thanks for the info. I don't care unless there is repeated, low noise.
I can't remember if this is from here or from where I used to live locally, but I recall a community discussion about SFO shifting approaches slightly, depending on which community phones in...
constant noisy planes close overhead in one distinct route is unfair when they turn RIGHT over your home

Build an ocean airport, atop barges, then build a tunnel with mass transit to the mainland. Put wind turbines and solar panels, along with small nuclear power plants on nearby barges.

Solves the noise problem, along with the energy problem.
