Great article! I love it details how people overcame the concerns they initially had over using alternative transportation.
Two years ago I starting riding my bike to work every day: 4.5 miles each way from Mountain View to Palo Alto. It only took me 10 minutes longer than driving and I never experienced the unpredictable traffic jams on Hwy 101. On the bike, it was 25 minutes each way, every single day.
Now I work in San Jose so I take Caltrain with my bike for a 50 minute commute. My car commute would only be 20 minutes, but I get 20 minutes email/reading time on the train and 30 minutes on the bike, so I don't feel like I'm wasting any time at all.
