Robots: Tomorrow's technology is still tomorrow

With a rotating head and two strong arms, the Personal Robot 2 from Menlo Park-based Willow Garage can navigate by itself and pick items up off the floor, open a refrigerator, fetch a beer and fold towels.

This is personal robotics. Palo Alto has other, more likely to be relevant sooner, robotics companies:

Suitable Technologies has a mobile telepresence that works well.

Industrial Perception is adding perception and planning to industrial robots to revolutionize distribution

And I'm probably missing a bunch of others.

This is the wave of robotics that will happen first, before we have anything personal.
