Santa Clara Co. DUIs down from last year

Law enforcement throughout Santa Clara County have made hundreds of DUI arrests in a 15-day period through Saturday, but the number of arrests are down from this time last year, officials said.

And just how many accidents occurred during this same period--that were caused by drinking drivers?

If these DUI checkpoints don't actually reduce accidents, and fatalities--what's the point, other than to generate a lot of revenue for the police?

How can lives not be spared if there are far fewer inebriated drivers on the roads?

DUIs are down or DUI arrests are down? Were the same number of officers hunting for DUIs this year?
