Shaw and Stanford not yet ready to hit the panic button

Maybe something positive did come out of last weekend's 13-10 loss to visiting USC. It has strengthened Stanford's resolve. The Cardinal pledged to improve in the areas that cost the team in a painful loss in which Stanford largely outplayed the Trojans, but failed to cash in on a series of scoring opportunities.

Top 25 teams like Stanford should always play other Top 25 teams or teams in their conference, period.

Playing a perennially weak Army (only 3 times in the past 20 years have they had a winning season), doesn't count for anything--unless Stanford lose, in which case they can kiss all post-season hopes goodbye.

Their first game against UC-Davis (not even a Division 1-A school!), where they pasted them 45-0, also doesn't mean a thing by the same standard.
