I don't know enough about twitter to re-tweet or whatever,
but here's a PA Utilities Monday Feb 9 tweet:

"Outage update: Last night ~1400 residents lost power in the Palo Alto Area at 9:00 pm due to stormy weather. Power was restored at 4:47 am."

Barron Park Neighbors,

This morning I learned more about the cause of the power outage this past weekend and updated our webpage with this information today. Outage details for any of our utilities can be found at www.cityofpaloalto.org/outageinfo and by clicking on the relevant utility (i.e. electric, gas or water). Thank you for your patience as we worked to restore power during the storm.

Recent Outage
Sunday, February 8: Approximately 1,826 customers lost power in the Barron park area around 9 pm due to heavy rain and windy storm conditions. Power was restored for all customers by around 4:45 am.

Cause of the Outage: Storm conditions. During daylight hours on Monday, February 9, inspectors found trees along the entrance to Gunn High School in conflict with the City of Palo Alto Utilities' primary conductors. Tree crews responded and Utilities crews will perform maintenance on the conductors if necessary.

I will check in on our protocols for sending automated messages to customers via AlertSCC (text message notification for emergencies) and/or the automated phone system at our Utilities Control Center (UCC), as well as for updating the answering system from within our Electric Operations. People can sign up for AlertSCC atwww.cityofpaloalto.org/AlertSCC

Undergrounding the utilities would avoid the inevitable outages every time a storm comes along and knocks down branches, trees, or anything else that can pull down an overhead wire.
