Community Notebook: Meeting on new accessory-housing rules

Palo Alto Neighborhoods, a group of residents, is hosting an informational night on May 25 about recent changes to the city's rules on accessory dwelling units.

Not quite sure what "like a garage" refers to in the sentence: "Palo Alto's ordinance also now allows the creation of "junior accessory dwelling units" -- a bedroom that is converted into a dwelling unit (which must have a kitchenette and be no greater than 500 square feet), like a garage."

I hope someone will be taping the meeting. We have concert tickets and can't be there.

It's exciting to see awareness about Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) is growing in the Bay Area. With the new state requirements coming into effect, it is exciting to see more homeowners becoming aware of their rights to build backyard homes, garage units and basement apartments.
