Just as our City and citizenry supported saving Buena Vista, and residents from displacement, we again offer our support and sympathy, just as we do when other such tragedies have occurred in other Palo Alto neighborhoods over the years.
Buena Vista is very well managed, has onsite security, and alert close-knit residents who know BV to be a safe community like the rest of Palo Alto. But that doesn’t mean such things still can’t happen through no fault of anyone but the person who caused it.
Last night, Kara was at BV providing grief counseling. As I listened, I could only think how awful that this befell these good people, this fine small community within my Barron Park neighborhood. Buena Vista needs our good wishes as they work through this, with the strength we know them to have as a community.

Compared to someone getting murdered and another person being punched so hard that he had to have eight stitches to his lip; I guess it could be considered "minor". But I really do not think the "minor" connotation was necessary. My heart goes out to the Buena Vista residents for the trauma this event may have cost them.

It doesn't Surprise Me that when there is a exchange in the atmosphere and Background checks are not done. And renting is performed by those that want to keep the Demographic close to their Vest. Instead of Due Diligence. This will happen anywhere.

I want to join with the other posts offering sympathy and support for the residents of Buena Vista. I do not agree with the comments using this incident as an excuse to vilify others in BV for criminal activity - a charge that is completely unfounded.
Palo Alto is hardly immune to the racial and class prejudices that afflict our larger society. Every story about Buena Vista, good or bad, inevitably unleashes a frenzy of hateful posts online untethered to any truth or logic. Frankly, such posts should resolve the rest of us to do even more to help Buena Vista and its residents, given the constant barrage of prejudice they have to endure.
