Isn’t commissioner Lee the man who incorrectly represented our city on a national level claiming that Trump was responsible for the assault of a veteran wearing a MAGA hat at our local Cal Ave Starbucks? I can’t even...

While I welcome the HRC adding its voice to the community wide effort for much needed PAPD reform, I encourage Pastor Smith to dampen his hubris by declaring the Commission as suddenly "the voice of the community". The community is doing just fine being its own voice as was heard at last Mondays city council meeting.

What the Human Relations Commission can do is what it is doing - act in its advisory capacity as all Commissions do to the city council - that is extremely valuable right now, and strengthens individuals' pressure on the city council for reforms.

Recruitment is one good issue for all of us to work on- let's take a page from East Palo Alto PD upon which to base new our Recruitment practices that will divirsify the PAPD. Then when folks who travel here, work here and live here will have a police force who will look more like them, and trust and treatment will improve. And Officers will have more confidence in their approval for their transfers and promotions once hired.

I hope to not encouage the city to waste time and our money on ineffective explicit and implicit bias trainings that have no proven value whatsoever. Here is a recent article about this with a local slant.
