Peaceful silent vigil on Mar. 6 Global day of action to the the war in Ukraine

Original post made by Judy Adams, Menlo Park, on Mar 3, 2022

Join community members for a peaceful silent vigil (where our signs speak for us) on the public sidewalk outside Palo Alto's Town & Country Village this Sunday, noon-1, for peace in Ukraine. No chants, singing, or use of amplified speech; we just stand and walk with signs to bear witness against the invasion and war in Ukraine, and against the Russian threats to use nuclear weapons. We stand in solidarity with Ukraine, and seek humanitarian aid for its people. We vigil for a ceasefire with all troops standing down and withdrawing (including NATO’s); and immediate negotiation through the U.N., to re-establish Ukraine's sovereignty.

The unprecedented invasion of Ukraine must be stopped and peace restored through negotiation at the U.N., and with a U.N. Peacekeeping team in Ukraine. We cannot risk a world war or the unchecked aggression of the Russian invasion. Let's stand for peace.

The vigil has been organized by the women and men of the Women's Intl. League for Peace in Freedom (WILPF) - you'll see them every Friday at the same corner at noon-1 standing for peace, justice, a green economy, housing, healthcare, protecting the environment, ending poverty and racism.... and they stand with Ukraine.

The vigil is co-sponsored by the Peninsula Peace and Justice Center, San Mateo Peace Action, Mtn. View Voices for Peace & Justice, and the Raging Grannies and featured in the San Jose Peace & Justice Center and with the support of San Jose WILPF and the San Jose Peace Justice calendar listings. There will be signs big and small to share during the vigil, but we encourage you to bring an appropriate sign too, depending on how many attend on Sunday.
