This sounds like a good idea providing the program can eventually fund itself via fundraising efforts/donations and permanent placement can be found for the tenants after 180 days because for some, county jail becomes a default housing option for many homeless individuals.

Leasing rooms at some of the more less than stellar motels along ECR is another option.

Various counties in SoCal are taking this novel approach.

Yup. Also surreal that the amount of the proposed business tax is about the same as a single-family home.

Yes. It's not nearly enough.

That location is truly "out of sight, out of mind" -- no transportation, no social services, no grocery stores, no nothing. That's why it's at the end of "Terminal" blvd. With 88 units, a newly housed person might last a year. The only advantage this building will have is high turnover. Why not convert one of the many empty office buildings right in the middle of town into shelter, and quit wasting money building -- use the money for programs to assist homeless people until they can become self-sufficient, instead.
